My husband, Marc Travanti, had an idea to mix his sculpture with my painting. He had been working with found natural objects from our Catskill property and mixing them with manufactured objects. He had also been making photo portraits of hybrid figures; putting a head of one person on another persons body. Putting these ideas together he employed me to paint, in my precise and photographic way, these composite portraits onto slender, young tree trunks. The trunks themselves then become part of the portrait.
