San Francisco > oil pastel
I moved back to San Francisco after college. The sculptures I had been making in school were three dimensional fabric constructions that hung on the wall and looked like paintings from a distance. I was ready to leave sculpture behind, but not yet ready to paint. I chose to draw with oil pastels. Holding a pastel is like holding color in your hand without the paintbrush as an intermediary, more direct. I took photographs of San Francisco, and made drawings from them; cityscapes and my first renderings of the figure.
