In the year 2000, sitting by a campfire in the mountains, an image came into my head of a painting series that would visualize the flow of human history. “Of This Planet”, a series of sequential paintings, has been my attempt at that chronology. Painting a “family tree” type depiction of our common origins as humans and our subsequent divisions due to events marking our history, I construct compositions on the canvas using images I have collected; of antiquity, architecture, gods, goddesses, sacred places and the natural world. This painting series is based on my research of the recorded histories of religions, civilizations, rulers and theories, some that challenge the existing versions of our history.
